Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture

What is Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture?

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is a form of acupuncture protocol that uses very small 5-6mm intradermal needles in the skin, including face, hands, arms, legs, and trunk. It’s purpose is to break down scar tissue from fine lines and wrinkles and stimulate collagen production, and increase circulation. Although commonly known as an “Acupuncture Facelift” it is not like an actual cosmetic surgical facelift. It is not a substitute for surgery, but can be an effective skin treatment without any major side effects or pain. It’s primary purpose is for rejuvenation and revitalization designed to the help the whole body feel and look younger.

What are some effects of Facial Acupuncture?

Some of these include: decrease in puffiness around the eyes, diminished fine lines, firmer skin and muscle tone, tightening of pores, brightening of the eyes, reduction of facial stress, moisturized skin, increased blood and lymphatic circulation, and a heightened skin radiance.

What can I expect from Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture treatments?

Treatment #1: people often experience an increased glow and colour to the complexion, you may look more well-rested as if you had a good nights sleep. This is the result of increased Qi and blood flow to the face.

By Treatment #5: Your face appears to be more “open”, eyes are brighter and clearer, tighter muscle tone, the face looks more well-rested, and small wrinkles start to lessen.

Between Treatment #5 – 7: There are usually more noticeable changes in skin tone, wrinkles, and muscle tone. The neck can look more lifted by this point with improved circulation and collagen production.

By Treatment #10 (full course): Additional issues such as digestive complaints, sleep issues, energy, stresses, etc. by this point are often lessened as well, with continued treatment.

NOTE: All results will vary from person to person and no timeframe is ever set in stone. We can never tell you how many treatments you will need, simply because each person responds differently; how well you take of yourself before, during and after treatments will play a huge role in how quickly you see results. After a course of treatments (10), monthly or even seasonal booster sessions are recommended.

What is a course of Treatment?

A standard course is 10 treatments, sometimes people take a little longer and double their course depending on their unique skin situation.  As mentioned above, there is no magic number ever to get results – everyone responds differently, and based on the state of your health and how you take care of yourself. Dr. Gill is a Naturopathic Physician as well, and as such may prescribe lifestyle changes, herbal remedies, supportive supplementation, dietary modifications, facial exercises,  to support your process, so you can ensure that you stay on the right track.

Would I be a good candidate for Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture?

If you suffer from the following: hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes mellitus, some pituitary disorders, hepatitis, any heart disorders, acute cold/flu, allergies, lymphedema, acute sinusitis, herpes outbreaks, bleeding disorders,  if you bruise extremely easily, or if you are pregnant or have a pacemaker,  then this treatment would be contraindicated for you. If you have had aesthetic treatments such as Botox, dermal fillers, or any facial cosmetic surgery, call us to determine suitability of this treatment.

What are the Treatment timelines?

Our recommended treatment protocols (for the best results) include:

1 treatment per week for 10 weeks, OR 1-2 treatments per week for 5 weeks.

Are there any Side Effects?

Side Effects are minor and usually limited to occasional minor bruising (that rarely happens), which usually fades within 1-2 days and/or localized minor pain at the site of needle insertion. This too fades within less than a day. Sometimes people can also have a heightened sensitivity to facial products such as cleansers and toners, so being aware of what you place on your face post-treatments makes a big difference.
